Message from Church Wardens Eddie and Brian

Dear Friends,

275 years ago Christians in our area started building St John the Baptist Church, Hey. They planted roots of the worshipping community we are all still part of here. So we are pleased to invite you all to celebrate our anniversary with us during the weekend Saturday and  Sunday 24th and 25th June 2017.

On Saturday you can learn more about some of the beautiful historical elements of church, then at the fair you can see an exhibition of history and meet with family friends who have been associated with St Johns' over the years. You will also be able to buy a copy of the book about our history specially written by David Green for the anniversary. Our history shows how we have changed to meet the spiritual needs of those around us and that remains the case to this day.

We promised we would let you know how our present search for the right person to lead us into the next phase St Johns' history is going. We - Brian and Eddie - were recently part of an interview panel for an applicant to be our priest. Unfortunately the candidate was not the right person for us so the post will be advertised again in September.

In the meantime we will continue to be a Christian presence in our area, with your support, maintaining our iconic building and supporting our worship here. I hope you notice the newly decorated hallway and toilets - we are very grateful to Keith Jones and Son who did the work at no cost; we are equally grateful to everyone who helps us maintain the grounds, especially Roger.

Thanks to everyone that completed our recent communications survey- we have the results and on the one hand were reassured that by and large we are communicating with people fairly well, and on the other we have work to do to listen to take on board people's ideas and to make both us wardens and the PCC members more visible. We held a PCC meeting last week, and as usual the full minutes are available to read in the folder at the back of church, you can also ask any of our PCC members for information about any of the items discussed.

We are looking forward to our celebration weekend and hope you can come and join us, we especially send our prayers and best wishes to the people being confirmed at St Johns' on the evening of Friday 23rd: a lovely start to celebrations.
