The trial by the Sanhedrin and the Judgement of
Pontius Pilot
(First Station of the Cross)
Jesus’ trial before Caiaphas ended in the early
hours of the morning. Then he was taken to the headquarters of the Roman
governor. His accusers didn’t go inside because it would defile them, and
they wouldn’t be allowed to celebrate the Passover. So Pilate, the
governor, went out to them and asked, “What is your charge against this man?”
“We wouldn’t have handed him over to you if
he weren’t a criminal!” they retorted.
John 18:28
Now Jesus was
standing before Pilate, the Roman governor. “Are you the king of the Jews?” the
governor asked him. Jesus replied, “You have said it.” But
when the leading priests and the elders made their accusations against him,
Jesus remained silent. “Don’t you hear all these charges they are bringing
against you?” Pilate demanded. But Jesus made no response to any of the
charges, much to the governor’s surprise.
Matthew 27:11-14
